Former county animal control officer dies in utility vehicle accident at his home

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Former Bartholomew County Animal Control Officer Mark Case died Sunday afternoon in a farm utility vehicle accident at his home, investigators said.

Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting said Case died of massive blunt force trauma to the head resulting in a skull fracture and has ruled his death accidental.

Investigators believe Case was riding in the back cargo area of a two-seater farm utility vehicle when he fell out of the vehicle and suffered head injuries. The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department is continuing an investigation into the accident.

Case, the long-time animal control officer for the county, had retired effective July 14.
