Animal welfare campaigners have taken their plea to end factory farming directly to Wellington’s MP Rebecca Pow. The group, called Compassion in World Farming (CIWF) parked their mobile digital billboard outside Ms Pow’s office before handing in a 27,000 strong petition.
CIWF is a charity that lobbies to end the export of live animals, ban inhumane methods of slaughter and end factory farming. As part of their campaign to push the Kept Animals Bill through Parliament they have targeted junior DEFRA minister Rebecca Pow.
The group handed in a model animal transport lorry containing over 27,000 signatures petitioning in support of the CIWF campaign to Ms Pow’s office.
The Kept Animals Bill was introduced to Parliament in May last year. If enacted in to law the Kept Animals Bill would prohibit the export of live animals for slaughter from the UK in addition to introducing a number of new standards that would improve animal welfare.

However progress has stalled, with the bill stuck in the report stage of the process, and yet to be sent to the House of Lords where it will be the subject of further scrutiny and debate.
CIWF are fighting to accelerate the Kept Animals Bill progress through Parliament. The stop is part of a 4 day nationwide trip by the group in which they will cover a total of 760 miles to take their message across the country.
