AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Two local groups are joining forces to help find new homes for stray dogs.

Dogwood Trails Animal Rescue held a fundraiser at the Back to Nature Garden Center. The goal is to save the lives of and find new homes for stray animals in the area.

“We are here today. We got asked about by Rodger and Berita. They wanted to host a just way of getting donations,” said Tina Scheuerman, owner of Dogwood Trails Animal Rescue. We need help, you know, feeding them for the rest of their life because we are a no-kill shelter just to help us be able to help others; we get a lot of people who ask for help for medical reasons or dog food.”

Dogwood Trails Animal Rescue is located in Appling, Georgia, and the organizer who visited wanted to hold a fundraising event at the Back to Nature Garden Center. The event had live music, a silent auction, raffles, and adoptions with the shelter.

“I’ve been out there a couple of times, and I saw the wonderful work they’re doing, and I got inspired. I made a donation each time, and I thought,” said Roger Bellow, organizer. “Well, let’s do something fun. Have a musical event.”

The Garden Center owner was happy to let them use the outside area because he loved animals.

“I love animals, and I want to make sure they find good homes, and I really support anyone that is trying to protect and rescue and provide those good homes,” said David Harden, owner of Back to Nature Garden City.

One attendee came to give donations and look around at the dogs since her service dog had passed away. She wanted to give what she had to people who would benefit from it.

“Tons of good that I had and beds and everything else for my service dog, and she, like I said, Just passed away suddenly. So, what I did was just kind of try and donate it,” said Lorna Hamilton, an attendee

Dogwood Trails Animal Rescue is a no-kill shelter that is always looking for donations to continue caring for the animals. Their Facebook page has more information on adoptions and how to donate.
