From left, Gail Hood, Linda Mathes, Pam Harris and Joe Chambers were on hand for the delivery of a $10,000 donation to the Unicoi County Animal Shelter. Hood and Chambers are elders at Erwin Presbyterian Church, where Chambers is also treasurer. Harris is the shelter director while Mathes is on the shelter’s board of directors. The donation came from the late Aline and Elouise Phillips, who were members at Erwin Presbyterian Church. Some of the final wishes of the two sisters was to provide a gift to the animal shelters in Unicoi County and Washington County. At the time the sisters made their decision, the Unicoi County Animal Shelter had not yet been established. Erwin Presbyterian Church made a decision to give the local shelter $10,000 in honor of the Phillips sisters. The congregation of the church considers the animal shelter a worthy facility and are confident that the sisters would have included the shelter if it had existed at the time.
