WOODBRIDGE, CT (WFSB) – After a woman was charged with animal cruelty this weekend, animal control are still rescuing more cats from the shocking hoarding situation.
Animal control is still looking for another 20 cats today, living in horrific conditions.
They are also busy shaving the dirty and smelly fur of several dogs found on the property due to their inflamed and infected skin.
“It should be white, so this is not the color of the dog,” said Jessica Moffo, Woodbridge’s Chief Animal Control officer. “It’s just all urine and feces.”
Dozens of other animals are in the same atrocious conditions with open sores and covered in filth after living in urine, feces and squalor.
More than 70 animals were found on the woman’s property on Pleasant Hill Road.
Moffo has been making several painful trips from the house back to animal control headquarters.
So far, 23 dogs, seven bunnies and one guinea pig have been rescued, along with close to 40 cats.
“There’s a lot of clutter,” said Moffo when talking about the property. “It’s not something you want the general public to see.”
The woman accused of these horrible acts hasn’t been identified yet.
Moffo says that will come soon, but the woman lives alone and has been charged with 22 counts of animal cruelty.
She is currently undergoing a mental evaluation at a hospital.
“She was upset but she was definitely in a mental state where she needs help,” said Moffo. “I hope she gets the help she needs so this never happens again.”
Meaghan Francis, who lives down the street from the property, says there’s been a foul smell there for years.
“Just really sad, honestly very sad, just glad they’re getting the help they need,” said Meaghan Francis.
