The brief was clear: Ranvijay, a die-hard Michael Jackson fan, would embody the charisma and carefree spirit of a rockstar. This passion for Jackson is woven into the film’s narrative, culminating in a pivotal scene where Ranvijay expresses his admiration for the pop icon to his father, played by Anil Kapoor.
A Homage with Individuality: Creating Ranvijay’s Hair
Drawing inspiration from Michael Jackson’s signature style, Aalim Hakim crafted a hairstyle that captured the essence of the King of Pop while staying true to Ranvijay’s personality. The look featured a loose ponytail with textured hair and a stylish hair flick, subtly referencing Jackson without compromising Ranvijay’s individuality.
Beyond Hairstyle: Capturing the Spirit of Ranvijay
For Hakim, the transformation went beyond replicating a hairstyle. He aimed to capture the spirit and energy of the character. Ranvijay’s entry scene exemplifies this perfectly. Here, he rides a bike, smokes a cigarette, and performs the iconic MJ Moonwalk, all set to a captivating background score. This scene, a favorite of Hakim’s, perfectly encapsulates the character’s essence.

As a long-time Michael Jackson fan, Hakim found personal gratification in this project. His admiration for Jackson fuelled his creative approach. He reminisced about the 1990s and the universal appeal of Michael Jackson, recalling how many, including himself, had posters of the King of Pop adorning their walls. This personal connection undoubtedly added another layer of dedication to his work on Animal.
