Coco Has Cancer – Be her Hero

Meet Coco, a resilient 6-year-old Nigerian Dwarf goat who has defied the odds and found her way to us at Animal Place. Her life journey has been marked by hardship, but you can rewrite her story into one of love and compassion.

For the first five years of her life, Coco was kept pregnant so she would produce milk for the dairy. Instead of all of her milk going to raise her kids, most was sold for human consumption. While she knew her kids for a short time, all were taken from her before they would naturally be weaned.

You won’t be surprised that the stress of birthing kid after kid caused Coco great harm. She spent more and more time standing still instead of moving. She lost weight and her hooves became overgrown and damaged. The farm no longer wanted her.

A couple purchased Coco for their private farm. They helped her heal. She had kids that, once again, she was not allowed to raise into adulthood. The couple decided Coco deserved a retirement, after all she had been through.

Coco arrived here as a foster, with the hopes that we could get her healthy and help find her a loving, forever home. It has been a goal of ours to save even more lives with a foster program.

Unfortunately, Coco was recently diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma.

This is where you come in. We are reaching out to kind-hearted individuals like you to help fund Coco’s ongoing veterinary care. Your donation will make a significant difference in her life and allow us to provide her with the medical attention and love she deserves.

Next week, Coco goes into the vet hospital for surgical removal of as much cancer as possible. It is likely the surgeon will not be able to get all of the cancer removed. She may need palliative care and support for whatever time she has left.

And I promise you, we will ensure she gets that care!

Despite the neglect she has experienced in her life, Coco loves humans. I’ve been trying to spend as much time with her as possible, as have all the caregivers. She loves being brushed and groomed, and will often lean against me, enjoying that connection.

I want you to know, we will do everything we can for Coco. And I need you by my side, by Coco’s side, to do that.

Please donate today for Coco.

Without you, there is no us.

With compassion,

Jess Carroll

Executive Director

PS: Your donation of any amount goes directly toward Coco’s growing veterinary bill!
