Two and a half years ago, team PVAS were involved in an incredible rescue, helping
carry a stressed, unshorn, frightened wether from the depths of a muddy dam to
safety. Valentine, as he was soon named, underwent a radical transformation,
finding newfound freedom (minus his years of fleece), and meeting a flock family
with which he could settle after a lifetime on the run.
Val was a shy, independent
old man, always wary, but growing more relaxed during his time in the Valley. From
his ear tag we estimated Valentine to be twelve years of age. His spritely trot
and appetite gave no clue that on a sunny Tuesday, his favourite napping spot
would be where he found his sheep wings.
While our hearts are heavy at the loss
of the amazingly resilient Val, we are glad he passed peacefully surrounded by
his flock. He knew safety, friends and Weet-bix, and although his Sanctuary
time was all too short, we’re glad his final chapter was comfortable for the
sweet old man. Vale big Val, you will always live on in our hearts.
