Staff at an Irish animal rescue have expressed shock after volunteers found a beheaded piglet outside their premises.
The baby animal was discovered right outside My Lovely Horse Rescue’s (MLHR) farm in Co Kildare on Saturday February 10, with a spokesperson describing the discovery as “heart breaking”.
The charity suspects the heinous act was done “as an act of cruelty towards MLHR”.
They are asking anyone with a dash cam who was passing the Moyvalley area towards Clonard on Saturday morning to make the footage available to them.
In a Facebook post highlighting the incident, MLHR stated: “Today our volunteers found a poor beheaded piglet right outside our farm. Its head was nowhere to be found.
“We are guessing that this was done as an act of cruelty towards MLHR. Heart breaking. We are asking if you passed the MoyValley area towards Clonard this morning and have a dash cam would you please check if you recorded anything. Pm us.
“To the cruel people who did this, intentionally to MLHR or not, it’s disgusting [sic] the cruelty that piglet suffered. WHAT IS WRONG WITH SOCIETY?”
Almost 100 outraged people commented on MLHR’s post, with one person commenting: “I hope whoever done this horrific act is caught and brought to justice. Absolutely disgusting cruel excuse for a human.”
Another commented: “This is absolutely heartbreaking what that poor creature endured. Whoever did this is, I don’t know how you can live with yourself!”
MLHR runs a farm in Cork as well as a farm in Kildare, with their sister charity My Lovely Pig Rescue caring for over 60 pigs at present.
