Midland Animal Services will be waiving the adoption fee for adult cats this week at the shelter during normal business hours.

MIDLAND, Texas —

Midland Animal Services has been filling up with more felines… that’s because from March to around September is when a lot more kittens begin popping up in Texas.

“That is the breeding season for cats. In the spring… towards the fall. So that is when it’s really important for us to get the cats spayed and neutered and find them loving homes,” said Melissa Griffin-Hobson, Midland animal services manager.

So, what if you’re looking to adopt a feline but don’t know whether to go for an adult cat or a kitten?

Well, Griffin-Hobson says that there’s things you need to keep in mind for both of them since they’re not at the same stage of development.

“So, with adult cats, it is ideal for families, I would say with smaller children because they’re seeing that personality in the shelter. They’re going to already have developed that personality, so they’ll know if they do well with their kids… with the kittens, they’re always fun. They provide a lot of love and attention, but you don’t know their personality yet. So, I would say with a kitten, maybe somebody who’s going to be home a little bit more… They do take more attention than an adult cat,” Griffin-Hobson continued.

The animal services manager also says that they’ll be waiving the adoption fee for adult cats this week at the shelter during normal business hours on May 28th, May 30th-June 1st and all the cats will already have their shots and be microchipped.
