HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – The Huntington-Cabell-Wayne Animal Control shelter was broken into on Friday. The shelter said this was not the first time.
Lori Arbogast works at the shelter and said everything was locked up tight when she left for the night before, but a co-worker noticed something out of the normal in the morning.
“Well she noticed the gate was unlatched. So she thought maybe you didn’t flip down the thing… It’s not the first time it has happened. We had it like welded and everything on there to make sure they didn’t cut off the wire on the doors like they cut them off with wire cutters,” Arbogast said.
Over the past few months, the shelter said a lawn mower was stolen along with dog food and cat carriers, just to name a few.
On Friday, a battery for a transport van was taken, and the shelter said the transports are important in case their is a medical emergency. They have since replaced that battery to make sure they can take the animals to get help if needed.
The Huntington Police Department is investigating Friday’s break-in.
