Claw This Journal: An Activity Book for Cats and Their Humans is packed with fun activities to do with your cat. They are designed to take account of your cat’s personality and get activities just right for them, and the book also includes crafts to do for your cat, space to make notes, and (my personal favourite) encouragement to consider what your cat would get an award for. Cat guardians (and their cats) will love this book.

Sassafras Patterdale (Lowrey) is speaking at Bark! Fest, the book festival for animal lovers. They are on a panel called Our Bond with Cats with Sarah Chauncey, Sassafras Patterdale (Lowrey) and Rachel Wells.

Claw This Journal is available from all good bookstores, including via Bookshop (and Bookshop UK) which support independent bookstores, as well as my Amazon store.

Claw This Journal follows on from Sassafras Patterdale (Lowrey)’s popular Chew This Journal, the sister book for dogs. Previously, I interviewed Patterdale about that book, while below, they answer my questions about Claw This Journal.

What are the main themes of your book?

This book is all about understanding your cat’s unique purrrr-sonality and finding ways to engage with your cat in new ways. The book is a collection of activities, crafts, tricks, and games that you can play with your cat.

What surprised you while you were writing the book?

The biggest surprise I had when writing the book was how surprised other people were! It surprises me that so many people still don’t realize that cats enjoy games and interactive activities with people.

Tell me something about your writing process and how it shaped this book.

I had so much fun writing this book! I was very focused on how to make this book as interactive as possible for both cats and people. My hope is that it would be something that people of all ages could return to any time they were looking for a way to provide more enrichment to their cats.

Who will especially enjoy this book?

This book is designed for cat lovers of all ages. You can work directly through the book or hop around and pick different activities. There are also activities for cats and kittens of all ages.

What are you working on right now?

I have a 16-week-old puppy at home right now who is keeping me very busy, and I’m working on our National Trick Dog routine with my older dog Sirius (who has been the #1 Newfoundland in the AKC National Trick Competition for three years). As far as writing goes I’m busy at work freelance writing and hard at work on a couple of fiction and nonfiction books that I’m really looking forward to being able to share with readers!

“This book is all about understanding your cat’s unique purrr-sonality and finding new ways to engage with your cat.”

A quote as immediately above plus the cover of Claw This Journal which is lilac with cute cat drawings and some claw marks
