SOUTH SALT LAKE — South Salt Lake Animal Services is in desperate need of help.

According to a Facebook posting, the shelter is beyond capacity and the number of stray pets without any form of identification is tragic.

“We are now having to resort to using temporary wire cages to house dogs. Which is not ideal,” a statement from the posting read. “It is stressful to the animals and the staff. This over-capacity is crippling our ability to help the public.”

According to the posting, there was a dog tied up in front of the shelter. It was tied up during the storm that arrived Tuesday and lasted into Wednesday.

“Not only do we have no space for them, but it is neglectful, abusive and unacceptable to abandon an animal in these circumstances,” the posting read.

As such, the shelter is asking for assistance from pet owners and potential pet owners.

The agency is asking pet owners to microchip their pet. Furthermore, pets should be kept indoors during a storm, and adopt from a shelter.

If you are interested in adopting a pet from the shelter, call 801-483-6024 ext. 6. You are also encouraged to visit the shelter at 2274 S. 600 West in South Salt Lake.
