PHOENIX, Ore. – The Jackson County Animal Shelter is hosting its Wag-O-Ween dog adoption event on Oct. 22 and Oct. 23. Dogs will be available for adoption at the discounted price of $50.
Since the pandemic, animal shelters across the nation have seen an increase in stray and surrendered pets. The Jackson County Animal Shelter says adoption events are a great way to get more dogs out of the shelter and into their forever homes.
The dogs available at this weekend’s Wag-O-Ween event are all vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered. Adopting a dog this weekend also comes with a free vet visit and a free one-hour in-house training session.
“The thing about rescue dogs is that they know you’ve rescued them and they bond to you,” said Rebecca Cohn, president of the Board of Directors of Friends of the Animal Shelter. “They are just so ready to bond to their human and within days, if not minutes, you’ve got a friend for life.”
Cohn says adopting an adult dog comes with lots of perks. She says many of these dogs already know how to sit and can walk well on a leash.
Shelter staff will be available this weekend to introduce the dogs to potential adopters. Cohn says potential adopters can also bring their own dogs and set up a meet-and-greet- session to make sure everyone gets along.
The Wag-O-Ween adoption event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on Oct. 22 and Oct. 23. The Jackson County Animal Shelter is located at 5595 S. Pacific Highway in Phoenix.
