Bhumi Pednekar Defends Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Right To Self-Expression As She Speaks Out On Animal
In a recent interview, Bhakshak actress Bhumi Pednekar shared her thoughts on Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. The violent action drama has sparked heated discussions around misogyny and toxic masculinity since its release.
Bhumi, known for her versatile performances, didn’t mince her words when expressing her views on the hyper-masculine genre portrayed in Animal. She stated, “I don’t like watching hyper-masculine films. This is not something that has developed now, I have never enjoyed those kinds of films even from before.” She emphasised her preference for rom-coms, highlighting that the genre resonates more with her.
Despite her personal taste differing from the themes depicted in Animal, Bhumi defended Sandeep’s right to self-expression. She articulated, “I genuinely believe that a film is a filmmaker’s self-expression and that is very important. But as an audience, what you learn from that self-expression… that is the challenge.”
Animal has garnered significant attention, emerging as a blockbuster success at the box office. However, it has faced criticism from various quarters for allegedly promoting misogyny and celebrating toxic masculinity. The storyline revolves around a man who returns from the US after an assassination attempt on his emotionally distant father. Seeking validation, he embarks on a vengeful spree against those responsible for the attack.
The star-studded cast of Animal includes Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, Triptii Dimri, Suresh Oberoi, Shakti Kapoor, and Prem Chopra. The film premiered on Netflix on January 26th, reaching a broader audience base.
