Ludhiana: A person has been booked for animal cruelty after a dog died allegedly after being beaten up by him, Ludhiana Rural police said on Sunday. The accused was identified as Hardeep Singh Kaka of Eidgah Road area in Raikot. The complainant, Mani Singh of Ludhiana’s Field Ganj, told the police that on the intervening of March 11 and 12, he had received a call from a man named Mangat Rai. “He said that a man had brutally thrashed a dog and left the animal in half-dead condition near a hospital in Raikot,” he said, adding that he rushed to the spot and, with the help of Mangat, took the injured dog to a shelter for treatment. The complainant said the doctor later referred the case to Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University for specialised treatment. He added that the dog died while undergoing treatment on March 26. The complainant then informed the police, who launched a probe into the matter. ASI Gurmeet Singh said the accused has been booked under Section 429 (mischief by killing, poisoning, maiming, or rendering useless any animal) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.The cop said that the accused had not been arrested yet.
