3 injured after wild animal attacks villagers in Jharkhand’s Latehar

By Satyajeet Kumar: Three villagers in Jharkhand’s Latehar district were severely injured due to the attack of a wild animal on Saturday morning. Many claimed that the unidentified animal was a leopard or a tiger. The incident took place in Kumandih forest under the Manika police station.

Currently, the injured, including one woman are undergoing medical treatment at the Latehar Sadar Hospital.

WHAT IS THE INCIDENT?

On Saturday morning, Arvind Oraon, a resident of Jobla village, went to the forest to pick mahua plants with a few other villagers. Suddenly, a wild animal attacked Arvind, after which, the villagers cried for help. Acting upon the noise made by the crowd, the animal attacked a woman, who is identified as Sampatia Devi.

Due to the constant effort of the villagers, the animal finally left the spot, after which the villagers admitted the injured to a nearby hospital. Based on the preliminary check-up, the doctors referred them to a different hospital for advanced medical treatment.

Acting upon the information, officials from the forest department went to the site and promised the villagers to provide them with protection from the wild animals.

According to the villagers, the wild animal that attacked them was a tiger, while many claimed it to be a leopard.

Further investigation by the forest department is underway.

Following the instructions of the Forest Department officials, a team was delegated to investigate the matter. Not only this incident, the villagers at Latehar district are also troubled by the terror of elephants for a long time now.

In a similar incident, a wild animal reportedly injured a villager in Jharkhand’s Chhipadohar forest two days ago.

Earlier in January, a leopard killed 5 villagers in 25 days in Jharkhand’s Garwha town. The government had deployed a hunter to catch the leopard, but it hasn’t been captured yet.
