The City of Midland Animal Services is launching a new program that will volunteers to walk or run with shelter dogs.
Rescue Runners is designed for “dogs to showcase their personality outside of the kennel, exercise, improvement in social skills, helping to promote fostering and adoptions,” according to the city.
Rescue Runners volunteers will meet at the Animal Services facility located at 1200 N. Fairgrounds Road on the first and third Saturdays of each month, beginning Saturday.
Volunteer check-in will be between 8-10 a.m. Walk/run dogs will be until 1:30 p.m., according to the city.
All volunteers must register and view the runner’s guidelines video at Animal Services before their initial outing. Volunteers 15 years old or younger must be accompanied by a guardian at all times. Appointments are not required, but volunteers may reserve a spot.
