TULSA, Okla. − Animal welfare groups and city leaders met on Friday at a welcome reception for the new City Council and the new leadership at Tulsa Animal Welfare, according to Healthy Animals Healthy Tulsa (HAHT).

HAHT is a coalition of Animal welfare groups in Tulsa and is the organization that hosted the event.

Mindy Turner, the CEO of Tulsa SPCA, explained what the event was about.

“We’re here today to welcome to new administration at Tulsa Animal Welfare, Colton and Sherri, and to just sort of talk about the way that nonprofit animal agencies in the area interact with Tulsa Animal Welfare,” she said.

HAHT said Sherri Carrier is now the manager at Tulsa Animal Welfare and Colton Jones is the shelter operations manager.

Turner said by working together, they can have a larger impact on the community.

“I’m really happy that there’s going to be some long-term continuity at Tulsa Animal Welfare, it’s one of the things that will help make partnerships stronger, and if we’re all working together we can have a much larger impact on our community,” she said.

Sherri Carrier, Tulsa Animal Welfare’s new manager, said it was an opportunity to collaborate.

“I think this is an opportunity to collaborate and get the word out to the City of Tulsa about how important animal welfare is, and all of our partners that are here, and the amazing work that they do, just to share our knowledge with each other and bring the community together,” she said.

Gina Gardner, the president of Humane Society of Tulsa, said she was excited to have everyone come together.

“We’re just excited for everyone to come together today and share information, network and really work towards improving animal welfare in Tulsa.”
